Frequently asked questions

What is the Visa Bulletin?

The Visa Bulletin is the U.S. Department of State's monthly publication that lists the priority-date cutoffs at which employment-based and family-based green-card applicants can file or be approved. Visafig archives every official bulletin from 2010 onward, reproduced verbatim with no modeled or projected numbers.

What is the difference between Final Action Dates and Dates for Filing?

Final Action Dates are the cutoffs USCIS uses to approve green-card petitions. Dates for Filing (often called chart B) are earlier dates USCIS may let you submit paperwork. Visafig archives the Final Action Dates; when USCIS adopts chart B, check the USCIS Dates for Filing page for the alternative cutoff.

What does 'Current' (C) or 'Unavailable' (U) mean on a cutoff?

When a category shows 'C', there is no backlog for that country of chargeability — applicants with any priority date may proceed that month. 'U' (Unavailable) means the annual limit is exhausted and no one can proceed until numbers reset with the new fiscal year.

How often is the Visa Bulletin released?

The Department of State publishes it roughly 7–10 days before the month it covers. Visafig pulls each release from the official DOS bulletin and notes the retrieval date, with no modeled or projected numbers.
